Education: Accessibility and Special Needs

All school programs can be made fully accessible to all students and can be adapted to meet the needs of each class. Once your visit is scheduled, a museum educator will contact you to discuss the lesson and the specific needs of your students. Guided Gallery Visits for students with physical or intellectual disabilities begin at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and are sixty to ninety minutes long.

The maximum class size for a group with special needs is fifteen students. A chaperone is required for every five students in the group. Sign Language interpretation and personal FM systems and induction loops are available to school groups free of charge with advance notification.

The cost of a Guided Gallery Visit for a class with special needs is $1.50 per student. The cost of a self-guided visit for a class with special needs is $1 per student. Up to five chaperones and teachers are admitted free of charge.

Wheelchair Access Icon The Museum entrances are wheelchair accessible, and wheelchairs and stools are available at the coat check for use in the galleries. Wheelchair-accessible rest rooms are located on the first and third floors.
